Last year Atea with support of Microsoft has run a successful Datacenter migration project Northland 1 that accelerated the migration of enterprise customers to the cloud with a total agreed commitment of 2,5M USD in ACR. After the initial assessment, 50 medium-large customers were included in the target list, and on the second step, 14 customers have decided to migrate to the cloud using the Atea platform. Overall, the project implies migration of 535 servers to the cloud.

Customers who signed the agreement:

The project goal was successfully achieved: during the first quarter of 2019, ten fully migrated customers consumed Azure for 0,5M USD. Also, Northland 1 has generated a catalog of successful transformation stories for Atea and Microsoft. We will deep dive into just one of them.

All customers were aiming to achieve cost efficiency and increase business productivity. At the same time, some customers wanted to solve specific business needs, for example, Komplett. Komplett is one of the most significant retail players in Scandinavia, with nine web-shops in 3 countries and 2 million active customers. Komplett had a specific goal to secure a successful Black Friday 2018, a day when sales increased 30 times compared to an ordinary day. As well Komplett wanted to

reduce and simplify the existing IT-infrastructure. Komplett digital journey implied a comprehensive migration project of 2 local data centers in Sandefjord to Atea Managed Services (AMS) and Azure. Now we are enabling the customers’ insights with a new Data analytics project with Power BI.

In this case, Atea has proven excellent project management capabilities working with a project that consisted of five subprojects and engaging with a broad developer team form located in different countries and infrastructure experts in a short time frame. The critical success factor for the project was a shared motivation and commitment, and excellent cooperation among all involved participants.

We are very concerned with performance and uptime on the online stores, so when Azure Stack comes, we get extra security considering that we can dedicate machines to the scaling requirement. There is a big difference between everyday life and a campaign day like Black Friday. A regular week at Komplett consists of hundreds of thousands of items lines on orders that all must be delivered in the shortest possible time. On Black Friday, this turnover can be up to twenty times higher, but customers’ expectations of quality are equally high. It leaves little room for delays.”
