With full SCCM 2007 and 2012 integration, Application Manager enables you to manage the Ordering, Discovery, User Acceptance Testing and Documentation processes, right through to the successful automatic deployment of the applications to your end users.

 

With full access to Atea's state of the art application packaging facility, Atea can also fully manage the package creation and maintenance process for you.

Application Manager is a web based tool, enabling your IT organization to manage the life cycle of all applications in your company. Specifically, it is crucial to the Application Packaging process on a daily basis, enabling:

  • Ordering application packages
  • Documenting applications (owner, responsible for license payment, application expert, source media files, etc.)
  • Managing the Discovery and User Acceptance Testing (UAT) phases.

In addition to packaging, Application Manager organizes all software usage data in one place. This includes original files, installation, configuration and packaged media information. With Application Manager, you can see who has ordered a new application, when the order was placed, and what changes have been made to existing applications.

Application Manager integrates with Microsoft System Centre Configuration Manager (SCCM) by automatically creating objects required by Microsoft’s Configuration Manager in order to distribute the application to the end user PC successfully:

  • Applications & Deployment Types for the new Configuration Manager 2012 application model (if applicable)
  • Packages and programs
  • Collections and WMI rules (Active Directory group membership) for each program
  • Advertisements for each program
  • Folder structure according to naming convention
  • Active Directory Group for application distribution

Is this a tool for packagers?

Yes and No. Application Manager helps your packagers to keep track of the process, but it has no packaging tools at this point.

When does it make sense to go "all-in" when it comes to the feature set?

We recommend you to implement all features all the time. From our experience it make sense even if you only have 10 applications in your DSL, to look into naming conventions etc, and then automate as much as possible.

Getting started
Do we need SCCM?

No, there is no requirement for SCCM. If you do have SCCM you can benefit from Application Manager's integration with that system. You can use features like, Auto Deployment and Template Deployment. Without SCCM you need to install the application on the machines dedicated for testing manually.

Can Application Manager work with both SCCM 2007 and 2012?

Yes. Both versions are supported, and you can even set up Application Manager to support both in parallell. This is quite common when you are doing a side-by-side upgrade to SCCM 2012.
